The design on this Mexican silver coin, ever since 1996 is quite a striking one. While there are some similarities to other Lady Liberty figures, the Angel of Independence has her own unique charm and look. The motif on the coin is based on the Angel of Independence, the famous eight-ton gold statue that stands on a tall column overlooking Mexico city. This striking sight is one that captures a great deal of Mexico‘s struggle and history and for that reason alone, this coin is an important part for any collection.

In terms of beauty and grace, the Silver Libertad really can’t be beat. Since 2002, the Banco de Mexico created a limited edition of eleven hundred uncirculated coins. As they were not made available in the United States, you can bet that they became a hot collectors item. In 2003, however, dated Libertads weighing in at one kilo became available, with a limited run of 3000 individual coins.

If you have an interest in the history or culture of Mexico, the Silver Libertad is an important part of your collection. Simply take a look at the high level of production and you’ll know that you have a Mexican Silver coin to be proud of.

I have a 1987 Madero 0 M $500 Mexican coin. Even though it was discontinued how much would it be worth if I tried to sell it to a coin shop?

I would create a watch on eBay and see if they ever pop up and how much they sell for.
