Byzantine Coins
Although the term "Byzantine" was not used until the 15th century, it generally refers to the Eastern Roman empire after Constantine the Great founded Constantinople in 330AD. Eastern Roman coins after this time are generally referred to as Byzantine Coins. Coinage in this category spans more than a thousand years.
The lack of silver in the Byzantine empire means there are very few silver Byzantine coins around. Many of the coins are gold, such as the solidus, and many more are bronze.
